Didn't Jesus teach about forgiveness? And would that especially not apply to a child? The guy was 12 years old when it happened.

@SusieLovesJesus I agree that he should have apologized on the spot. If it were me I might have called an adjournment there and then, considering the sensitivity of the situation, and talked privately with the guy. However it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he may have been in shock; being confronted like that 40 years after the event, the laughter being a response to that. Outrage is extremely easy to whip up out of context. In any case, we all are outraged over the bullying of any child (by another child, but I maintain that their status as children is a mitigating factor. Our anger ought to be directed to the adults responsible for those children, whether in the present or the past.

@SusieLovesJesus And if the person that did wrong is a child, who does not fully understand the consequences of his actions? Do we bide our time for 40 years and then take cold revenge when he is an adult, ruining his life? Whether the victim has forgiven him is irrelevant. With his public outburst he abdicated judgement to the mob.
