  1. Metallic taste in the mouth is a symptom of pericarditis. It could be that he had that for a long time... the chronic version that is. I had it years ago; it developed over about 6 months until it was correctly diagnosed. The metallic taste for me was because of over-salivation due to water retention from my constricted heart.
