The poverty and ongoing hardship, stress, mental illness and poor living standards that will be an issue for many years as a result of the wrecked economy this has left us with. Skyrocketing inflation, worldwide civil unrest and likely shortages of all sorts of goods including food - we haven't begun to feel the true effects yet.

  4. It's like you fell into a river and spent 10 minutes underwater before being pulled out. Thank heavens... the end of drowning. But after that we are left with lasting damage and that my friends is where we are economically, socially and politically after this great big mess. We're heading for a global crash that will make the pandemic itself feel like a summer holiday.

  5. Swings and roundabouts. It would have meant that the at risk groups had much more exposure but over a shorter time frame. My couch scientist opinion is that it probably would not have resulted in much difference in deaths. But it also wouldn't have left us with the car crash economy that we now have to deal with. But that's only my intuition.

  6. We had several emergency hospitals erected here in the UK when Covid broke out called the Nightingale units and they spent the next year pretty much empty. They were partially repurposed as mass vaccination centres so not an entire waste of money I guess.

  8. I think pragmatically it was to buy time for the vaccines to be rolled out. In a way they just delay the inevitable. But the longer they go on the more you screw your economy and make it harder for us to flourish once it's all over.

  12. I keep seeing teenagers walking around alone... outside... even after all restrictions were lifted in the UK last week. These kids were emotionally fragile enough already from the toxic online culture they are growing up with. It's tragic.

  13. Wait a minute.. they are still locked down with cases rising. With a hard lockdown you're just delaying the inevitable and condemning your economy to even more ruin.
