Woke started as a serious term for being aware of social justice. Then the word got hijacked and used as a mocking term for someone who is perhaps a little too "zealous" about social justice.

@verve5euton793 Only half true. I'm on the right - and people in my circles use it as a mocking term to describe those who are a little too zealous about social justice. "If you're keen on trans women twerking at kids in school, then you're woke...", that kind of thing. But yes it started out as a fairly earnest term, in the way that you describe.

Like "racism".

@sabinesfamily Well she did kinda melt down. I mean I'm a conservative and anti-woke and it's a pretty easy term to define for me. So I was confused why this author found it so hard. I think like others say, sometimes you blank out in an interview and as soon as you start panicking... it's all over man.

I think she actually did say what woke was - albeit stammering a bit.

@anacc3257 Because the cultural techno-elites are now in a cult.

To be honest, writing a book about "woke" culture is kinda last decade. We on the actual right have moved way past that now.

@verve5euton793 It's not the same as the N word. Like I said I'm on the right and I don't hear anyone in my circles using the N word because it's just not a nice word. That has a spite to it that is beyond just parodying something - which is what "woke" is used as.

@romeod7549 Yes, it's the right's equivalent to "fascism". Which is what the left call anything they don't like. They both play similar games.

@blacksheep1502 There's no shortage of black conservatives using the term. from their point of view It describes any far-left ideology like transitioning kids, feminism or diversity hiring. What we have here is a word that means two different things to different sides.
