  2. Well yeah if you imagine the world was a ball made from lead, but in one place there is a part of it that is made from styrofoam. The styrofoam bit will be lighter per volume than the lead part. And explained simply to an idiot like me - lighter stuff creates less gravity than heavier stuff (at the same volume). It's the only possible explanation really for the phenomenon.
