  1. "You will own nothing". This is the philosophy of consumer products of the future. It's not about making things obsolete. They are quite happy for that printer you bought to last 30 years, just as long as they can charge you an endless subscription to keep using it.

  2.  @joannleichliter4308  It would be absolutely possible to manufacture things in such a way that this was not the case. Modular designs so the least durable parts can be replaced. They could even sell the bloody parts to make ongoing revenue. If for no other reason than environmental conservation and reduction of waste/energy cost to make new ones - which at all other times we are told is basically the religion of most corporations.
