Honestly when they won the election I was willing to give Kier a fair crack of the whip, even though I didn't vote for him. But after only a few weeks he has made half the country, including me, an enemy of the state.

It's about being visibly severe on a few cases in order to create a chilling effect. They only need to lock up a handful of folks for it to work and they want it to be widely discussed and for us all to be feeling unsafe about it.
