I saw that interview too.😂

Frankly at the point that we accept a computer is as conscious as a human, we have forfeited our souls. It's blasphemy. My toaster is no further away from being self aware than chatgpt is.
3
All I know w about consciousness is it applies to me.

I predict the internet literally breaking and becoming unfit for any purpose because AI generated fake garbage will take it over like the most epic virus ever.
2
itzhexen0 We've got addicted to it for so much. Banking, communicating with our kids, everyday shopping. The cold turkey will be painful.
2
Do these conundrums always feature the unpredictable behaviour of animals? I notice that thinking up ones that aren't is more of a challenge.
2
This is the thing. It's a machine. No matter how self aware or conscious it appears... All the same, it is only appearing to be so. You will never change my mind about this.
2
For our own good, we were not programmed to understand it remotely well.

@JustAThought01 I think we agree. We do not need to understand the game, in that we are given the tools we need to stay alive and reproduce. The game you described is "reality", a comprehensive understanding of which I don't believe is available to any living being in the universe. And I dispute that we are on a path of self destruction. If you are thinking within the paradigm of our current, fleeting, global civilization, then yes I agree. But the world turns in cycles. There are golden ages and there are dark ages. We might change the environment, billions may die and that would be quite awful, but survive we will - and in time we will grow a new civilization.

It's not a thing that cannot be overcome. But the worry I have is that it will all happen so fast that we can't adapt and keep up with it. So UBI and work programs may be a solution but we can expect a period of absolute chaos in the transition.

@TetrzLesonduclairon-qb7cn I can make a strong argument that I am part of the animal kingdom.
2
I'll just post a joke about being shocked here and I'm sure you'll laugh yourself to sleep tonight.

It's okay. If you're a white guy the AI won't even notice you exist.
1
@CharlesFVincent I wonder if it will question the ability of a train locomotive to "want" anything.
1
Yes I agree, although I do assume the other humans around me are having the same experience of being that I do. For my own sanity you understand.
1
@jeffbull8781 To suggest that a machine can be equally as self aware as you or I would have me question the sentience of all life on earth, including the people around me. The single fact I can be sure of is that I am conscious. All I can do at this point is accept solipsism, because I'm obviously a Baltzmann Brain and every other being I meet is either a figment of my imagination or an avatar in my personal simulation. It leads us down a path of nihilism that I am quite sure is catastrophic. As I said, it's blasphemy, and flies in the face of everything is means to be human. I cannot ever accept that a machine is anything more than just a machine.
1
I get that this is a giant inscrutable matrix, but is it really true to say there is "no code?".
1
Stop giving the AI ideas for dealing with it's detractors.
1
@tringuyen7519 Don't you think that the ignorance, fear and greed of humans is more than simply a cognitive issue? These traits are influenced by our instincts and emotions. Both things that an AI doesn't have, at least not in the same way as a human. That said though, I don't relish a purely logical unfeeling AI ruler any more than I do one with emotional issues.
1
I am STUNNED.
1
There will be a portion of people who can never accept these things as truly sentient. I have to admit I'm one of them. I have a hard time accepting there is a graph of increasing complexity between my toaster and Lt Commander Data where at some arbitrary point the thing becomes a "person".
1
I'm worried about the internet to be honest. It may not take long before it's literally broken and unusable since you won't be able to trust that anything is real. The news... the weather... your bank account... the call you're on with your child... How can we avoid the spam and fake stuff exponentially swamping the genuine?
