  1. It looks to me as though there are no power sockets installed and he's just finished up to the pattress. And the dark patches are not shadows - it's just the plaster drying unevenly. Both these things are not out of the ordinary.

  2. It's a lot easier for a customer to vet tradesmen before agreeing work than for the tradesman to do the same to a customer.
