I mean really what we should say to the police is - Sure you can see inside my phone.... but you'll need to file a FOI request and wait 6 months. And then there's no guarantee that I may not have "lost" the data you want 🤣

One day all of what BBB is saying here will literally apply to your mind itself. Do you really think that once technology like Elon's Neuralink exists, that the court won't use it and compel you to allow the law into your mind? What's the difference between that and a phone, which contains the most private and intimate data in our lives?

It seems to me that this would be a violation of the right to remain silent.

I'm no lawyer but in a sane society the content of your phone would be private property surely. Of course Google or Apple spy on us constantly but we enter into a legal agreement with them when we create an account on our device. So, despite not being an expert in the law, I would fully expect the police to require some kind of court order or warrant before compelling you to allow them into your phone, just the same as if it was your house.
