  1. Poland backs US President-elect Donald Trump's demand that NATO members increase their defense spending to five percent of their economic output. The goal formulated by Trump is an "important wake-up call" for the alliance countries, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz told the British daily Financial Times. The implementation will possibly take ten years. "But I don't think he should be criticised for setting a really ambitious target, because otherwise there will be some countries that will continue to debate whether more spending is really necessary." Poland spent an estimated 4.2 percent of its gross domestic product on defense in 2024 - a peak in the EU and NATO.
