The breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria is extending the economic state of emergency for the second time, although the separatist republic is being supplied with gas again after months of power outages. The measures include restrictions on natural gas consumption, a ban on energy exports, and the suspension of labor and property rights. The parliament of Transnistria votes in favour of a decree by de facto President Vadim Krasnoselsky extending the state of emergency until 10 March. He had first declared the 30-day economic emergency on December 9 in anticipation of supply disruptions. Moldova began supplying EU-funded gas to Transnistria on Saturday as part of an initial €30 million emergency aid package. This week, the EU pledged additional funding to improve energy security in both Moldova and Transnistria, with aid conditional on "steps being taken in relation to fundamental freedoms and human rights". The Russian state-owned company Gazprom stopped gas deliveries to Transnistria on January 1 because of outstanding debts.
