@kurtseck9459 Asylum seekers are a net positive for the economy. They pay more in taxes than they take out in funding. We aren't funding them, they're funding us.

@kurtseck9459 These people have been at the border for months, not weeks. It takes them a month just to show up at the border. The economic benefits are long term, not immediate. You're complaining that they aren't paying into an economy when they are sitting in a border security agency waiting to be processed. I absolutely know what I'm talking about, I've read the studies showing the economic benefits of asylum seekers, so stop fearmongering and insulting and start reading.

@lisarodriguez2926 What is it with you lot and saying cupcake? Weird people trying to gain an upper hand in an argument by attempting to undermine your opponents position. Shame it just makes you look ignorant. They're letting people in because they are seeking asylum, a right granted to them by congress. Stimulus checks are being debated right now. I wish the republicans would hurry up and approve them but they're dragging their heels. The stimulus bill will also fund schools, unemployment, small business loans and SNAP benefits, so that covers most of what you said. Defunding the police is about reduce funding to a department that costs around 90% of the total budget in most areas, and does everything to escalate situations needlessly far too often. Providing asylum seekers with basic necessities is also congressionally approved and humanitarian. You probably wish they would all die in a ditch on the way here, but in the US competent leaders have read the numbers on the economic benefits of asylum seekers and understand that they are a net positive, bringing in skills and getting education that allow them to pay into a system more than they get out. So the plan for asylum seekers is about investing in our future rather than stewing in the past as Republicans are prone to do.

@joelellis7035 Them being asylum seekers makes them legal by definition. The screening is a bit more comprehensive than that. It includes both biometric and biographic checks, including fingerprinting, name checks on both first name, last name and name variations, an interview, DoB checks and more. You make it sound like a pat on the back and they're on their way, but this isn't even close to the truth. Talk about fake news.

@joelellis7035 1. Perjury only applies when you are under oath you dumbass. 2. All immigration to the US requires a medical screening. I should know I did it myself: "A medical examination is mandatory for all refugees coming to the U.S. and all applicants outside the U.S. applying for an immigrant visa. Aliens in the United States who apply for adjustment of their immigration status to that of permanent resident are also required to be medically examined." 3. Not sure why you think the asylum seeker process is fake. It's a legal way for refugees to enter the US, and has been for decades. 4. " Covid-positive illegal immigrants being released into the country is fake news." Let me just frame that statement for future use. Thanks Joel.
