Doesn't matter. Trump's zero tolerance policy was the cause of the children being locked up. Obama could have built 20 new prisons, but if Trump made jaywalking a felony he would still be to blame for filling those prisons. Trump's policy was so bad they decided to detain kids by renting out entire floors of hotels for kids to stay on while they guarded exists. They then expelled them as soon as they could, ignoring standard policy on minors who cross the border seeking asylum: "Federal anti-trafficking laws and a two-decade-old court settlement that governs the treatment of migrant children require that most kids be sent to the shelters for eventual placement with family sponsors. But President Donald Trump’s administration is now immediately expelling people seeking asylum in the U.S., relying on a public health declaration to set aside those rules."

@tylerstreet8614 I guess all those mandatory separations were just a coincidence then.....

@tylerstreet8614 Oh dear, looks like the dementia is kicking in, you've forgotten the last 4 years already. While you're at it explain why thousands of families were separated at the border. Oh, and look up the definition of "zero tolerance" while you're at it. Damn boomers and their short-term memory loss.

@tylerstreet8614 What narrative? That the Trump administration family separation policy enacted as a "zero tolerance" approach intended to deter illegal immigration and to encourage tougher legislation. It was officially adopted across the entire US–Mexico border from April 2018 until June 2018 and later investigations found that the practice of family separations had begun a year prior to the public announcement. This resulted in the government reporting in January 2020 that the official government number of children separated from their parents or guardians under the policy was 4,368. Also in January, the American Civil Liberties Union reported that more than 1,100 families had been separated since June 2018, the date that the administration said they would no longer separate children from their parents. So Trump officially enacted this policy, was using this policy for months before they announced it, officially ended the policy but kept doing it anyway, and separated thousands of families in the process. Do you even know what a narrative is? That's not a narrative, that's facts. Your claim that there were no mandatory separations is a joke. Families were separated. Either you support that decision or you don't. Claiming it never happened makes you look demented.

samford hikes You know they send the parents back right? They are forcefully separated and the children are detained while the parents are sent back.

@tylerstreet8614 Enforcement changed. Trump chose to enforce it. You're an idiot.

@tylerstreet8614 I'm sorry you don't understand how laws are enforced and how policy can change based on the enforcement of those laws.

samford hikes lol, no I'm not. That was the policy.
