When someone brings up the 2019 crime levels, and ignores the 2020 increases in crime, then yes we do need to bring up the previous administration.
2
So you're saying that increases to police funding don't always equal lower crime rates...
2
@ghostsofVTurbexSkysthelimitvid The bill was passed less than a week ago. More police also don't directly lower crime. Of course they thought about results when they allocated the spending.
2
@ghostsofVTurbexSkysthelimitvid Sure, I get that, but at a certain point the increase of police numbers doesn't actually lower crime, it just drives down public trust and encourages think kind of "bad apple" behavior. Lots of people point to the 80s and early 90s as an example of when more police were the answer to high crime, but ignore the numerous other social and economic factors of the time. The trend was global around that time, and other countries used many other methods to try and lower the crime rates. For a global trend like this to lower crime the theories seem to be more centered around lead in gasoline, abortion laws, the war on drugs and the aging population. The constant claim that more police did anything at the time is just not supported once you review every other country.

So they didn't pass a bill to increase police funding, which Republicans voted against?
1
Good idea. Stick to corrupt child molesters like Republicans always do.
1
Democrats increased police funding.
1
@davidrobertsemail When did they decrease it? Why would I be against releasing prisoners when the vast majority of those released are in for non-violent drug offenses. Longer sentencing obviously doesn't help as we have the most prisoners per capita, and the worst recidivism in the world. We need reform, and locking up someone for smoking weed for 5 years is not the sort of reform we are looking for.
1
@davidrobertsemail Not sure if you had another point, I only see a comment about the 2,000 people in jail, so if there is another comment then it's hidden. And so what? I disagree with the VP on this issue. I'm not some party over policy, cut off my nose to spite my face MAGAt. US prisons are a money making scheme designed to enslave people and profit off their incarceration, plain and simple.
1
Up 30% from 2019. When was the majority of that increase? Oh right, in 2020.
1
@abryendawgman1 Biden took office in 2021 champ.
1
@taxedenoughalready Peter here mentions 2019 crime stats, but avoids talking about 2020, you know, when crime actually increased. Wonder why that is.
1
@josephsmith4161 and continues on from that for the same reason, the economy. Thanks for making my point.
1
@josephsmith4161 No, it was covid. The economy is doing well compared to other nations and all things considered, but that doesn't mean that covid didn't cause a significant hit causing mass unemployment and price increases. That would be the same regardless of who was in charge, but thankfully the current administration is putting us ahead of the curve, strengthening the economy quicker than other countries. Manufacturing is returning and employment is rock bottom, but the long term effects of these changes have not yet hit. Interest rates are finally back to more normal levels. The deficit is dramatically lower. We're investing in America. It's not however an overnight fix. Your whole point about reform is because you're blind to just how sick US policy is when it comes to punishment. We have the highest rate of prisoners per capita and an incredibly cruel prison system, that even allows slavery FYI, and for what? One of the highest recidivism rates in the world. But sure, let's keep giving years of prison time to minor drug offenders so they can spend their time in prison being treated like animals and learning how to commit much worse crimes. What a novel idea.
1
Because it's an obvious loaded question.
1
Where is the lie?
1
@billmariano7334 Found the hypocrite. Why is it that everything Republicans say is projection?
1
Because it's an obvious trap questions. Why even ask about crime increasing since 2019, and not 2020, when the crime spike actually happened?
1
@JohnSmith-ux3tt Because it's a nonsense question.
1
They absolutely are. In fact crime is higher in red states.
1
That the 30% crime increase happened in 2020?
1
Crime rose in 2020.
1
That crime increased in 2020 and Democrats are trying to undo the mess left by the previous administration?
1
The truth being that using 2019 crime stats is dishonest and that the crime wave happened in 2020. That the Democrats are funding police more than ever to try and undo the damage left by the previous administration. That Peter Douchey knows that but askes these blatant trap questions on purpose to try and make a political point. Peter should just run for office already, and stop putting politics in journalism.
1
Which part? They did indeed increase police funding.
