  2. Missing a ton of caveats there, mostly around premiums, copays and deductibles. Employer insurance is also usually substantially cheaper. I have amazing medical insurance through the hospital I work for. Our max family out of pocked + premiums is still over $8K, and that's exceedingly low for healthcare. With how many Americans live paycheck to paycheck, a sudden $2,000 emergency bill is well outside why they afford, nevermind the rest. And no, medicare still had plenty of associated costs.
