Just like the colonies...no wait.

@stiofain88 Total nonsense. India was far worse off under colonialism. Their population was stagnant, they had multiple brutal famines, and had trillions stolen from them. Since then their economy has grown to larger than the UK. The mercantile economy was utterly brutal for India.
6
@typetwo Growth that could have been achieved through trade. The population of other nations increased by far more in the same time period. The dramatic mismanagement of famines was a substantial issue throughout the entire occupation. The trillion in resourced removed also hammered the entire sub-continent. You need to do some research.

Being constantly concerned for your public safety isn't an entitlement.

@stiofain88 The commonwealth is for trade. Why wouldn't you want to be part of a trade group? As for people migrating from India, they have over a billion people. Even a tiny bit of migration looks enormous to the UK.
4
@stiofain88 Except they do trade with each other a lot. It's also about promoting democracy, good governance, peace, human rights, and the rule of law. The Commonwealth also hosts events, webinars, and summits, including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings. But sure, just boil it down to your sick fantasies.

@typetwo Ah yes, 24 major famines in 50 years, more than any other 50 year period, right as the Brits took over. In the 100 years prior to British rule only 12 famines took place. It should also be noted that some of those early famines were made worse because the British were taxing people during a famine and not doing anything to alleviate the issues.

@typetwo More an expert than you it seems.

@typetwo Big oof. "Famines may seem more common, but that's just what all the evidence says. For all we know there could have been way more." "Famines weren't caused by the British anyway, I mean they may have been worsened by the British taxation, but the never caused them." "No, they were caused by the weather, and the British continuing to tax people and failing to alleviate the issues like the Kings of old was not their fault. And anyway those Kings were all liars." "Anyway, let's ignore the literal trillions of pounds of goods removed from the region and focus on the trains. Trains which they could have built themselves with money left over if the British had traded rather than ruled India. The trains totally stopped famines and they couldn't have done that themselves." Is this whole site just copium incarnate?

@typetwo 14 years of Tory austerity play a far larger role than immigration.
1
@typetwo I don't care that people consider it a priority. People are wrong.
1
@typetwo Shame they're wrong.
1
@hArtyTruffle Concerns like what?
1
Yep, racists.
1
@DonaldJPutin5 You're so close.
1
@CosmicCoyote That does tend to make racists angry.
1
Oh, you were there were you?
1
@hArtyTruffle So you admit a bunch of racists were there causing trouble, but they totally weren't racist riots....
1
@hArtyTruffle Not sure where you got this "75%" number from.
1
@hArtyTruffle Got it, so a bunch of racists were there causing trouble, but they totally weren't race riots. Make it make sense.
1
@typetwo He's arguing against decades of research. I'll believe the decades of research and not a single historian with a bad theory.
1
@sadenbrick So a bunch of people moving to and different countries try and refusing to respect or assimilate to the local culture is only okay when Brits do it? Got it.
1
@sadenbrick Got it, so we agree colonialism was bad.

@jonjohnson2844 This is the most simplistic and purely fantastical view I've seen of the empire in a long long time. Let's just ignore the billions upon billion we removed from these regions in resources. The people we removed and sold into slavery. At least they had good roads...that we built to steal all their stuff quicker.
