Let me make it a little more clear: By comparing a group of vaccinated individuals to a control group on how they respond to covid you can measure how effective the vaccines are at reducing symptoms of those who got infected. You can also measure total population numbers of those infected to determine vaccine efficacy.

@isodoubIet They gene sequence the positive results from PCRs to track variants, then review the results of people who tested positive, matching their vaccination statuses against their recovery rates, hospitalization rates and general conditions.

@tulsacountytransparency3716 Past 35 cycles, as in MORE THAN 35 cycles. We aren't trying to detect the dead nucleotides so we don't test past 35 cycles. @Allyourheroswenttohell Those words were in reference to people with AIDS. Their immune systems are heavily suppressed and at the time they were unable to complete eradicate any infection they caught. PCR can only find something if it's already there. We also control for the number of cycles to determine acceptable quantity boundaries. Finding virus in people is a solid indicator they have or have had covid. Lateral flow can be used to determine current or former infection. Antibody tests are also solid.

@Allyourheroswenttohell There are numerous tests to detect viruses, including full genetic sequencing. PCR tests do exist, and they are used in the millions. Your ignorance is not an excuse.

@Allyourheroswenttohell They're telling them to stop using them because they only detect 1 thing, in this case covid. Many hospitals have already made the switch to a combined covid and flu testing. It's still PCR based.

@tulsacountytransparency3716 PCR is a way to duplicate something. The test part is looking for something specific in what you are duplicating. PCR alone is not a test, how we use it is a test. And sure, if used incorrectly that can happen. We monitor cycles to determine viral load. It also only measures the presence of something, not if someone is infected, you are correct about that, which is why we also have lateral flow and antibody tests. It does however tell you if something is currently or has previously been infected recently. You are pointing out flaws in PCR that we already know about, and counter using proper methodology. But keep spouting the same line from a dead guy to support your idiocy.

Charlie Jones Yes, PCR can tell the difference between covid and flu. Everywhere is actually testing both at the same time. PCR does not sequence the genes, it just searches for a commonality. Full sequencing is entirely different, and is exactly how we find variants.

@edoboleyn Both are dumb though. Vaccines are safe, and the variant is nowhere near the sars-cov-1 that was being studied. They already concluded that it's almost certainly from a different source than the lab.

They stated that during flu season the inability of the existing PCR tests to track both the flu and covid at the same time means they are testing people using 2 separate tests. The separate tests use 2 wells on a plate, meaning each plate is only 48 patients. They switched to advocating for a multiplex test for both, which is still a form of PCR. This allows both viruses to be tested for at the same time. Most hospitals were already using this method when the CDC recommended it. The switch was 95% of the way there already. If PCR didn't work they would have both swapped it immediately and switched to something that wasn't PCR. They did neither of these things. "Remember… or realize. AZT is still used for AIDS and Fauci has received commendations from the AIDS community for allowing them to use experimental drugs at a time when AIDS was a 10 month death sentence. He saved lives. NIAID was the largest funder of HIV/AIDS research under Fauci leadership during the epidemic. At the time he also testified before congress over 200 times, and openly stated that the government had been dragging its feet, and he made a change to fix that. He even wrote an article in Nature about the whole ordeal. Imagine being so tone deaf that the very thing Fauci is openly applauded for, you try to use as an attack. "Maybe refute what was said. You are trying to argue that a drug developed and still used to combat HIV/AIDS causes people to die, when in reality it does a lot to dramatically extend the lifespans of people, and can even block transmission from parent to child. You state that it is an immunosuppressant like HIV, while ignoring that it has saved millions of lives. The really sad part is that you're wrong, this isn't even what azidothymidine does, it's not an immunosuppressant. It's a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, meaning it prevents HIV from replicating. But sure, lets just ignore a drug that has been in use for decades because its use disagrees with your politics.
