@myrtleesther8855 “For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be obeyed until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.
I think this means that just having a relationship, is not good enough. Obey or be punished seems to be teh way to go. Allthough, I do hope your heart keeps deciding your way, and NOT the commands of an insane god.. I think you are a good person, if you are, the book condemns you, sorry.

Memorize this then :Romans 13: 1-7
“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which god has established. The authorities that exist have been established by god. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what god has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he shall commend you. For he is god’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is god’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. There fore it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.
This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are god’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes, if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
Clearly it is the job of Christians to obey the laws,
Now explain to yourself how you dare being on this channel, and disobey.

@philnicol8072 I agree with most of what you say, because they are the words of a reflecting human aware of self.
I fail to understand the need to "listen to jeusus" though. Sure, some things he is said to have said is fine, even positive, but other things are absolutely horrid.
While one can listen to a fellow human, and dismiss the bad, and take what is good, Jesus, is supposed to have never been wrong, and EVERYTHING he said is supposed to be obeyed ( I do not do obeying well).
I will judge as I see fit, this does not make me judgemental, just critical. I do not place myself above others and judge them, I simply see what i see, hear what I hear, and make a personal judgement . Others may refer to this as "forming an opinion based on current information."
As far as Jesus goes, I have no good feelings. Promoting human torture and bloodied sacrifice.. is that good? Human sacrifice is otherwise said to be bad.. but if god or jesus wants it, it is good? Not in my heart it is not. It is bad, period. Then going on to eat the flesh, and drink the blood, of the human jesus.. even if it is in the form of bread and wine, this is cannibalism by proxy. Another activity I can not support.
But this verse/demand alone, is enough to make me distance myself fully from any following of this "person " :Matthew 19:29 If you really loved Jesus then he insists that you abandon your wife and children for him. Only that way will he allow you to go to heaven. (That is if you meet his other hefty requirements, don’t slip through the loopholes, and ignore the contradictions.)
Be honest, be nice, use force only when absolutely needed ( self defense), and that is about all one needs.. no religious book of fear and doctrines needed.

@Sheryl_Redmond Here is something else Romans 13: 1-7

Oh and the family part.. dont love them too much, god does not approve, and jesus doesnt like it at all.Matthew 19:29 If you really loved Jesus then he insists that you abandon your wife and children for him. Only that way will he allow you to go to heaven. (That is if you meet his other hefty requirements, don’t slip through the loopholes, and ignore the contradictions.)
