"San Diegans who pounded the pavement in hopes of bringing the city's first Latino mayor into office" First off.  If this is the only reason people were voting for him.  Worst ideal ever to vote for someone. Look how well it's working for America voting for a half black man into the White House now. Second off.  David Alvarez lost because he would driven off very good paying jobs down on the bayfront there.  NASSCO and surrounding businesses.  That's why he lost.  David Alvarez was a horrible choice for mayor.
