  1. It might not have anything to getting drier. The source of run off has probably changed and doesn't get the run off flow as it used to get. You could look at a map and trace it back to see if can spot an area that has possibly lead it to change flow. Rivers, creeks, streams change course and some can get one bad over flow and change the course in a day and some over time will slowly change it's direction of water flow.
