Don't know why anyone looks up to these people in the first place. Children should be taught to admire talent, not wealth.

Docta should have called you guys out. "Sorry officer, the mighty snow tire BRZ was tailgating us".

It's so much fun chasing higher powered cars. I've even had fun in a 1997 minivan doing that!
17
Miata is going to make it, I have faith!
16
Very jealous of the ZF8. The ZF6 in my N55 e92 is the part that makes it feel the most dated.
14
Forget the Hondas racing. All I can hear is brilliant S65/S85 sounds!
12
The weird cars you come across and end up wanting. I was looking at manual wagons and came across the V50 T5 AWD. 5 cylinder turbo, manual, awd and allll that cargo room.

This is fantastic! Brass tacks insight into car prep and progression from experienced enthusiasts is very under-served on YouTube.

Loved the review! On steering: I followed Chris Harris' recommendation that the steering should be left in comfort for all driving. I found the other modes heavy without any added directness or 'feel'. On fitment: The e92 (and not the e90) has plastic fenders and they contribute negatively to some of the fit and finish. At least on my car they flex quite a bit. They're all metal on the F8x.

Great video! Nice balance between the car and the roads you were enjoying, at least to a fellow BMW nerd that can follow along with everything you said. The description of the character of the N55 is spot on. There is never really a reason to use the top end because the torque is everywhere, and you could get into a lot of trouble at the speeds the car achieves when the revs are that high.

I love the 12-year-old in dad's suit analogy for the e39, but for different-ish reasons. I was also 12 when my dad bought my family's first BMW, an M52 e39 528i. I never felt like I was old enough to drive that car. Learning to drive on other non-performance oriented cars, whenever I got the chance to drive the e39, it always required some more shoulder to steer and some more bravery to accelerate. It was so rewarding though, and I've been hooked on BMW since!

I rented an F80 M3 with the DCT while on vacation in the PNW a couple of weeks ago and absolutely fell in love with it. I don't really want to get into another car that will have a fairly large depreciation in the next few years, and I've always always wanted an e9x M3. So I've been finding myself looking for an e90 DCT.... Just not sure I want to give up the xDrive for a daily, or drive the M3 in the winter. So maybe the plan should be to get the manual e9x M3, and then wait for the DSG Golf R's to come down in price to replace the 335?

I'm looking forward to Boston content! There are lots of Cali content on Youtube already. Not a lot of quality New England content. Please stay :) My 4 year Boston anniversary is in 4 days. I'd love to know what your favourite roads and drives are around here.

That shifter was worth it alone. "Is it a chair leg?" -Clarkson

There's nothing that says Respect the Drive, more than Respect Your Elders! Love e30's, on the car bucket list. Didn't know about the four bar arm rest, super cool.
4
Hill descent....? Should have done it TG style and put the cars in neutral all the way down!

Tedward Transmission Tangents - Where we get a once in a while change in format to give an even deeper look into all things Tedward. Basically, plebs talking about stuff plus footage from the vaults and other random segments.

I've at times considered an e39 M5 because my first BMW love was my dad's e39 528i. Browsing M5board and looking at the amount of maintenance people put into them scares me off though. Nothing is catastrophic about the s62, but there seems to be many many more little things that cost a fair amount to fix.
3
I'm not a VAG guy at all, but it seems like the PQ35 predecessor and now the MQB platforms both had lacking rear sway bars. It would seem they would be better served in the journalist reviews if they just put a proper one on their enthusiast cars from the start.

Fun! The want is strong for a euro S50B30 M3-4-5.
3
I don't want to find the roads, I just want to steal yours!
3
Great candid review and unlike most other exhaust review videos was not just 10 minutes of adjectives and validating your own purchase. I got my MPE on as well with some Q&A help from you and am very happy with it as well. I like the weight savings, stock-ish aero, build quality, inspection compliance, and most of all the new throaty-ness between 3k and 5k. It otherwise is not necessarily dramatically different and is very pricey, so I certainly understand the appeal of a lot of other systems. Cheers!

The number of sketchy holes in roads is noticeably up. Some of it is due to end of winter, but probably due to stay at home mandates; understandable though!
3
Ahhhh, clicked thinking you changed yours finally! Though it wasn't clickbait. Should have noticed the stickers on the driver side in the thumbnail. Tell-tale it was an NY car.
2
Good talk! Tax free weekend in MA and I'm eyeing new tires 👀
2
I'm getting to the point with autocrossing that I want to wet the tires between runs to cool them down a bit, but also wondering if doing that would accelerate their overall degradation with increased heat cycles. Probably a better question for the autocross guys. But this video and David Perel's recent onboard story got me thinking.
2
I also don't have sensors in my 275 square setup. I coded the TPMS off and coded on the flat-tire monitoring system. Search m3post for the diy to enable FTM.
2
That pedal dance for the traction control is insane. I understand the crazy procedures on a Prius, but why on a BRZ?!
2
NSFW! A holes, D and a female.
2
Two pairs of cheap ass sneakers. Spoken like a true BMW enthusiast :)
2
Rituals? Procrastinating until the first snow.
2
Woah, this exists in Michigan?!?! Rally e30 dreams are formulating.
2
Ahhhh. Been meaning to go to Devens with BMWCCA for a while now, keep making excuses for myself. I've had a blast on the autocross tracks on both my ADSS and the BMW Track Days. Next season hopefully!
2
Looking really smooth and fast! Interesting how late the apex is on the left hander under the overpass.
2
If you close your eyes on the 850R pull, you might be mistaken to think it's an RS3.
2
Plug Pawinn's thai food, I need to try more places!

Watched three times and still playing "spot the car"! Admittedly I am new to learning Porsches though.
1
Sorry for mistaking your car Nico! A Stromung is going on when it gets warm. Mine is going to be a bit of trial and error as there's not too many S54 swap examples out there.
1
I wish 3rd party warranties would take into account how well the car is being taken care of. Doing oil analysis like this, or even preventatively doing the rod bearing service should be akin to having a good driving record for your cost of insurance. Did you get a 3rd party warranty for your e92 M3?

+Tedward The first steptronic in my family was an e39 with the M54 and it was reversed too. It actually took me a long time to get the direction right on my e92. To viewers: Its much harder than you'd think to not go the wrong way after you're used to one. Props to Tedward.
1
Chris Harris's 2CV. Its on my bucket list to drive one like it!
1
You just convinced me a garage is not complete until you get a slow but characteristic car. The pursuit of speed is good for scaring the daylight out of you, but how else can you have this much fun at normal not-frightening speeds?!
1
Welcome back! Thanks for bringing some of the Cali warm weather back with you.
1
Stay in the BMW game! Love the ///Monsters shirt :)
1
Wow, fantastic video! Will the half cage get any paint? What's David's plans with his Cayman?
1
Coming from BMW and being sold on the dual-purpose-ability of cars, sounds like look for an S with the LSD and do the cosmetic stuff when you're bored and save up a few pennies.
1
@TedwardDrives exclusively autocrossing, so I'm looking to upgrade to RE71R from PS4S.
1
Cheers for buddies working on cars together. Nothing ever goes smoothly, but having a laugh over it makes it better than okay!
1
Congrats on the shop David. Tell us more!
1
Great choice with the FL5s! I'm running 275 square PS4S on Arc8's on my E90M and plan to keep it like that for at least another season of autocrossing. I'm starting to get within touching distance of the folks running 71Rs but in stock sizing. So I figure another year of seat time before I consider tires and classing. Luckily for autocrossing the domino effect of more grip is less of a thing!
1
Transmission tangent! Absolutely worthy clip to share. Older-more-responsible sister to the dream car.
1
This was fun! Great idea for a little series I think. You can do all of the local tracks too. Lots of great fast drivers to bring on as guests to play Forza, followed by a ride-along in their cars on the real track.
1
Tedward commercials.
1
Would have clicked for garage 42 details also. I'm guessing it's not a pleb garage though ;)
1
So much for pleb garage 😆
1
Ooo, I saw the outro and almost left.
1
I'm on vacation so I missed the M2 Comp news until getting the Tedward notification. Mind. Blown.
1
Hm, not sure I remember that e36, which episode was it from? I remember Maggie's 318 rally car though!
1
Oh shame on me. That actually might be the video that brought me to your channel!
1
Do a video on Nico's S50 swapped E30 :)

997 GT3 vs 981 GT4? These are similar in price nowadays. I'm an e9x M3 owner looking to eventually 'graduate' as well. I think my issue with the 981 is that the 781 is a refinement in concept of the 981, so it is inherently going to be a little bit better in almost every way. Whereas the 991 went in a different-enough direction than the 997. That means to me, longer term the GT3 is more likely to hold its value, as it is a unique experience, without the "I got a 981 because I can't afford a 781" complex.

Jake's new space is styllllling. Looking forward to attending his open house again. It was a great time last year.
1
ahhhhhh what do I have to do to meet Rebecca? Buy a Type R? I don't have a yellow S2000 and yellow jacket, but I do have a Jerez M3 with dark blue BMW Pumas. ehhh ehhh?
1
10k miles in 11 months, despite having two other cars. Well done! I have not been sending mine out as I have the unhelpful 2010.5+ bearings, which won't really show bearing failure in the analysis. Still torn on whether to just get them done or get an after-market warranty.

Respect the drive, disrespect the tires!
1
Wooo hooo! Inspiration. I've just been doing driving school events and slowly working my way up to track time.
1
Fantastic and special perspective!
1
Oh that's easy then. Just don't have miserable days or terrible feelings.
1
@TedwardDrives Thanks Tom! That sounds like me too. I've tried highly modified 'tuner' cars before, but I just so completely appreciate the refinement of a stock M3 that can also rip at a track. Sounds more and more like this statement is true - there are two kinds of true enthusiasts, those that like Porsche, and those that don't know it yet.
1
The wagyu steak of air cooled 911s indeed. Delicious!
1
There's so much deliciousness in this video I don't even know what to comment on!
1
I stayed til the end for the previews. Very excited for the upcoming stuff!
1
Cheers for the channel update. Keep at it Tom! Oh, and that couch and M3 poster reminds me of something you haven't done in a while, Tedward Live with Eddie!
1
Before I start this video, thanks for introducing me to Mulle Music!
1
Bridgestone has a performance and a snow model for Blizzak's. I think the LM's are comparable and should give similar feel and dry grip to Vredeistein and Pilot Alpin. The Blizzak WS is the one that is more of a clunky winter boot equivalent to say a Michelin X-Ice.
1
Looked like good fun! I went and looked it up, bookmarked for next year maybe! http://www.yuppierally.com
1
Cheaper easier upgrade. Drive around with the windows cracked open slightly and just listen to the s62 :)
1
Sinister indeed. Also, not pleb. So far from pleb 😉
1
40 seconds in and I'm already jealous of the Porsche shifter precision. They make them so well!
1
Congrats on the new job! I've kept my e92 335 xDrive as my daily after buying the e90 M3... while it's a great combo still, I'm getting a little tired of the slight unreliability of a middle-aged BMW hitting its 70k mile "not-really-maintenance" items. I don't have the patience to deal with a needy daily, so I'm considering paying a little bit to trade for a low mileage mk6 Golf R or something like that. Plus it adds something a little different to the fleet.
