  1. I've been all over Britain. Been in dozens of cemeterys including my local cemetery on Tyneside, and made it my business to read as many War Graves as possible. Of the thousands of names I read, only 1 was not an English, Irish, Scots or Welsh surname. The odd one out is in Gateshead east Cemetery. He has a German surname oddly enough. Research showed he was a South African who died of his wounds after being moved to a hospital in Gateshead.
