  1. A Russian KGB defector to the west in 1980 revealed all this. Stalin was planning to invade Western Europe in July 1941. Spies tipped of the Germans, and Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa as a pre-emptive strike. It was Stalin who was breaking the so called Nazi -Soviet Pact not Hitler. Masses of Soviet forces were captured disembarking from trains on the western border when the Germans did invade.
