@alexanderb996 not winning a war and then losing interest after failing is still a loss! you don’t have to lose all battles or be pushed back to lose a war.

@madgavin7568 let me try and make it even clearer, if you fail your mission and then after 20 years your mission is still incomplete and then for whatever reason you leave the mission unfinished, you have lost the war. you did not complete the objective of the war, therefore you lost! maybe the USA could have carried on in Afghanistan for another 20 or 40 years but if the result would still be the same, then that would still count as a loss! the only known objective the USA fulfilled was the assassination of bin laden whereas the destruction of al qaeda in Afghanistan failed and the taliban also returned to power in days! if that is not a loss then what is?
