I'm from Europe and we're not perfect. Just different. The craziest part of the USA is that your credit score is actually based on the amount of credit cards and loans you have (and if you pay them). Here we look at it the other way around: the more you loan, the less credit score you have. We just look at income and the amount of loans. Housing loans are not registered (unless you don't pay your mortgage for more than 3 months), because we consider a home loan as good loan. The mortgage you can get is of course limited to the property value. Anyway, seeing what is happening in the US is just crazy to me. Especially people living in the middle class. It used to be a dream right, to achieve middle class. Now middle class means not even being able to own the land and house on top of it. Just a life full of paying rent, interest and having trouble to meet months end. Buying a house (and the land below it) and paying it off in time, is one of the best investments one can make.
