  1. The teaching point is very valid. In Switzerland, it used to be that you weren't allowed to drive a manual car if you did your licence with an automatic car. So that's why almost everyone took the manual car license and is able to operate such a car. But a short while ago, they changed the law and it's now possible to drive a manual car even with an automatic license.  Because they assume that very few cars will be available with a manual in the future (EVs etc) and that this old license system is no longer needed.  Of course this also means that the amount of people actually knowing how to use a manual will get smaller...
