  1. Good for you. But someone else is paying for that "free" public transport. Transport authorities are not selfish giant, who refuse children an entry in his garden.

  2. The assertions are wrong from both LW and RW point of view. From RW POV: Free public transportation are not "free" per se. Just because you aren't paying upfront on pay-as-you-go basis, doesn't mean it is free. Either someone else is subsidising / paying for you, or you are paying for itself through higher tax contribution (intertemporal transfer of cost). From LW POV: People who use the car are affluent ones, and would choose comfort over price. Or they lived in placed where public transport options are limited to begin with. On the other hand, those who use public transport are forced to pay anyway without free vouchers. Personally I would support ONLY work commute being subsidised / paid by employer. Reduction of car use doesn't have to be through luring. What is wrong with enforcement, or massive financial disincentive?
