@EllieD.Violet
Moin dear Ellie 😊
So I use that mailaddy, I'm using for yt anyway? Or do I need another one?
About M, infact that info is correct, it even was reported about in the Spiegel, T-online, Guardian, leMonde, etc and at the EUs Commission site....
April 18th 2024 = the EUs Commission offer was the "EUs youth mobility deal for youngsters at the age between 18-30 for max four years to study/Erasmus, work, etc"....
A few days later the UK rejected the EUs offer...
Looking at the EUs Commission site "Q&A Commission's proposal on EU-UK youth mobility"...
Let me know, please, when the discus is ready, looking forward to that 😊
Have a nice Sunday with greetings from oop north 🖐
Edit typo/autocorrect 😁

@JupiterThunder
Remember the British Empire?
While the Osman Empire dissolved, the Brits took over by installing all those artificial borders without taking care of the already existing tribal/territorial borders at todays Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq...
....until these days trouble is ongoing in all those regions/countries, due to those, by the Brits installed artificial borders...and most of refugees, coming over towards the EU27, are coming from those areas...
...and all of that the Brits did, to protect their already dissolving British Empire..

Please look up for Robert Schuman, the "father of Europe", born in Luxembourg (at that time German, later French), who's idea of a European Union started in the 1920s.
Robert Schuman was the first President of the European Parliament and the only EUropean ever, who received this very special title "father of Europe".
His book "for Europe" is available at the EUs Commission site book shop...
Please look up for Jean Monnet, the other "architect" of the EU = the "Schuman plan".
ALL of what the EU27 are today, was already part of the "Schuman plan", and got confirmed again at the Treaty of Rome in 1957, and got confirmed again at the Maastricht Treaty in 1992.
Treaty of Rome = "....set up the EEC = bringing together Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, to work together towards Integration and economic growth through trade to establish a common market based on the free movement of goods, people, services and capital".
Churchill as well as Thatcher jumped onto an already existing train ...

Ten countries have the status as a "candidate for EU membership" already, some since years...
Joining the EU27 isn't to "negotiate", but simply "working off the list of criteria needed to be implemented properly" = which gets monitored by the EUs Commission, if not done properly, joining process stops instantly !!
It goes like this ONLY =
the UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if NONE of the EU27 member states vetos the UK joining the EU, only then the UK/GB would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters have to be fulfilled and implemented properly (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if not done properly, joining process stops instantly.
It's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states, to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy.
This is, why part of the APPLYING criteria includes a national debt of max 55 % !!

Hi Shaun 😊,
while reading your comment, I was wondering, what WW II has to do with the issues of todays British politics and the way, the British youth gets treated by its own gvt? 🤔
My London born spouse and I are living in the EU27/Germany, thinking about your question "if it would have been better to be a born French, Dutch, German or Brit after WW II"?
Well, as all those mentioned before Continental EUropean member states/countries had mostly been crumbled to dust due to the war...
All of them received money due to the Marshall plan =
UK = $ 3,75 billion
Germany = $ 1,5 billion, of which $ 1 billion had to be paid back = of course, as Germany was the agressor...
All of those mentioned before countries are todays EUs member states and in a much better situation than the UK is in...
What makes me wonder, why are so many Brits...unfortunately until these days, are referring to WW II for so many of todays issues...meanwhile the British and German air forces are doing the air policing at the Baltics = always with British/German cockpit crews 😊
May be the simple answer to your question would be = that it's British politics and its politicians, which are supposedly should act on behalf of the British people/electorate/country, and not to benefit their own buddies..
I wish you all the best with greetings from the EU27/Germany 😊🖐

@shaunbell499
Thanks for answering...
Well, not so much really...why?
The generation before yours were baby's /toddlers/kids at the time around WW II happened, the ones coming after you just know it due to history lessons at school...
So it were your grandparents generation talking about it?
As a EU citizen I can tell you, that unfortunately most of Brexitters, partly Remainers as well, still seem to fight WW II...as THAT statement pops up quite regular against the EU citizens and the EU27 itself 😒
Then I would say, that it might have been better to be a born Dutch, French or German after WW II...
A change of mindset might be an idea for British society...may be the following generations of Brits have a chance on doing so...
Forgot to say = the Dutch and German armies are fully merged since 2023, that process started already in 1995.
It needs to get worked on the past...that includes the British Empire as well, as that meant = invading, occupation, so called "colonialism"....and not = the "glory of the British Empire"....
"United in diversity, all for one, one for all, together we're strong", THAT are the EU27 !!

@peterdavidson3268
"Rapprochement, realignment, joining the EU asap, etc" = the usual British cherry picking =
UK has the TCA/NIP/Windsor agreement with the EU27...and it would be very nice, if the UK would finally implement those deals/treaties, it signed with the EU27...
Some weeks ago the EUs Commission stated "the EU is very happy with the TCA, that it's very balanced for BOTH sides, and that the Commission is looking for further implementation of the TCA at the REVIEW coming up".
And yes, right now there are various EUs member states, which would veto the UK...
And again = the UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment = a national debt of max 55 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently...
Starmer can sort UKs internal/national issues first...the EUs Commission/negotiators/spokesmen are stating this since years over and over again...
EVERY EU member state has one voice, Malta (about 550.000 people) the same as Germany (about 84ish million people), every EU member state has one voice.
ONE voice/veto is enough, to stop the whole process of joining...
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria, as stated by various EUs negotiators/spokesmen various times since years, they know due to experience of other countries joining process.
Since the EU changed some joining criteria due to the financial crisis in 2008, part of the accession criteria are = a national debt of max 55 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently = this is ONE of many criteria, why the UK can't even APPLY for EU membership at the moment...
