The European Continent has 47 countries, of which 27 are EU member states, 4 are EFTA members another 9 have the status as a candidate for EU membership, and 7 are 3rd countries, of which one of them is the UK. The UK was a independent and souvereign country all the time when being EU member state, otherwise it couldn't have left the EU27 on its own free will, but would have needed permission to do so from the other 27 EUs member states 😂

Btw = "the EU" ARE the EU member states !! The EUs COUNCIL = the democratic elected EU27 member states GVTS are the rule/law/decision makers in the EU !!

Btw, it's not only Germany, which is having a society getting older, ALL western countries, but even China, Japan and other countries around the world facing the same problems.... On the other hand... we're already 7 billion people on this planet and facing massive problems ...climate change included, with the going along droughts/floodings etc...all not very helpfull... Leaving the EU automaticly includes leaving the EUs SM/EEA/CU, according to article 126 of the EEA Agreement !! You're either "in" or "out", UK is out !!
