Oh dear π
The "European Courts" = is the ECHR, which was founded after WWII, and DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING to do with the EU27, since 48 countries are members in the ECHR, of which 27 are EU member states only.
The ECHR was founded to protect HUMAN RIGHTS, yours included !!
About British borders = claim your own Gvt for not taking care of any of national issues...which is, what your gvt could have done ALL THE TIME while being EU member state π, instead it preferred, to blame national politics on the EU, as that was so comfortable...
By voting for Brexit, you voted for supposedly EUs issues, but in reality it were/and are still your crappy British national politics π
Thanks for Brexiting with greetings from the EU27 π

Well, in the 1960s = there didn't exist "deliver on demand", no container ships, because containers started in the 1950s in USA, first containerships arrived in 1966 in Bremerhaven...
with 266 containers...
Usual loading time for a ship without containers = up to one week with about 100 men, carrying sacks/things/goods/boxes, etc...
today one Containership with about 18.000 containers on board leaves the port after 48 hours...
Todays largest containerships can carry up to 24.000 containers...
Felixstowe can take containerships with max 16.000 containers = smaller ships only !!
Reduced choice of everything ...In the 1960s = all those goods, you're used to have now = were simply not available, and if so , were very expensive !!
And, not to forget = no Inet, therefor no fast change of info...

Well, as much as I know = there isn't enough space available at Felixstowe...if UKs gvt wanted to build larger ports/deepwater, it could have done that in the last 8 years/since referendum....
....right now it's going like that / and always was = containerships from USA/China etc arrive at = Rotterdam, Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Hamburg = get unloaded, in case there are containers for UK on board = they get put onto smaller containerships to suit British ports...
...only difference is = when UK was EU member state = UK containers got fully checked at those Continental EU ports = as that was the outside border, where those containers arrived at the EUs SM/EEA first...
Now, since Brexit = ALL containers, which travel towards UK = just get "waved through = unchecked...
The EU27 started preparing for Brexit straight after the referendum = and was ready as soon as Brexit happened = EU27 member states ramped up staff for border controls/vet staff/customs/civil servants/civil services etc...
Opposit to the UK, which should have done the same =about 60.000 extra staff is needed now due to Brexit, for those services, the UK has to "sort" on its own now...while before, when being EU member = all of those services were included in the EUs membership fee π
Forgot to say = since the Houthi Rebels are there...to stay... it costs β¬ONE million extra per ship to go around the African Continent/as stated by some ship owners recently = higher costs for the goods...
And it takes 30 extra days...

Well, as Felixstowe is UKs largest port, it's not that easy to enlarge other UK ports for these mega containerships...the Asians /China prefere ever larger containerships...don't know, if you've ever seen one of these giants...a "floating port" = sorry, but you need all these huge carrier cranes, driving fully automaticly, train tracks up to the ships, loading space..etc...may be it's about time for you, to watch some vids on yt about the needed logistics at those modern ports...
Well = move on, yes, but we here on the Continent have done that since Brexit...
But you over there have to live with it...for many more years...btw = one of my British Brexitter family member came up with the same "we managed life in the 1960s ..." yeah, of course, human beings have managed since hundreds of thousands of years...just depends, which standard of life one preferes..
Forgot to say = when Felixstowe wasn't on the route of MSC and Maersk anymore = those containers had to get diverted towards the EU ports again...inner couple of weeks ALL extra
storage areas for containers had an overload, in the end ALL UK containers were stored at Wilhelmshaven deepwater port = nearly 200.000 containers were blocking all EU ports . ..the workers there had to do double shifts for months, because unfortunately UK didn't get its shΒ£t together to take its own containers back to UK.
Container shipping is a very fine tuned issue...
All the best to you with greetings from Bremen π»π
