  1. The crazy thing is, the masque's premise is almost identical to the plot of "Hop Frog" by Edgar Allan Poe. Except in that story it was deliberate arson planned ahead of time and there were no survivors.

  6. I somehow doubt there ever was a joust with sharp weapons. No one is that stupid. It's probably a result of exaggerated retellings about how jousts use to work. Like how these days people still think gladiators were bloodsport

No one knew what had happened at the time but later a local newsman said the body was stolen by three buffoons who lived north of town simply as a trophy and the skull was on display at "a fraternal order." That duke was simply de facto King during the king's insanity as the Queen conspired with him to put the army and diplomacy under his direct command.
