Comments by "Samson Soturian" (@samsonsoturian6013) on "James Webb Space Telescope: How will it work? - BBC News" video.
The engineers behind the Webb think it would be easier to assemble the next telescope in space.

That's some strong acid you got...

Heck, NASA had to promise the next moon mission would contain a female astronaut just to ensure idiot politicians didn't cannibalize their budget.

Wut? Is that a joke?

The US is the biggest charity donor in human history. Why aren't you solving world hunger?

Liars burn in hell

Why would the Devil show up on infrared?

@MyPokergirl mean that remark for someone else?

Nowhere did he say that

@simonb8078 what does the one have to do with the other? The whole world doesn't revolve around trees.
1
@simonb8078 how'd you know? It's not like you know a thing about it. And again, the CO2 output of space is statistically insignificant. And the fact this launch is in a forest means it'll just be absorbed faster. Now don't you have a car dealership to firebomb?
1
@simonb8078 that you're probably an ecoterrorist

That's a common misconception. There's no way to tell when distant light was emitted.
1
@Omar_Santisi_ yeah, it is so common that even Veritasium makes that mistake when he also made THIS debunking video: https://youtu.be/pTn6Ewhb27k It's one of those science concepts that sound illogical but must be true in order for relativity to be true. There are untested theories that explain all the facts, though.

@chefcarry2902 not possible. Light may be transmitted instantly, or take all of eternity.
1
@chefcarry2902 that's a function of distance, not time. According to light itself, the journey is completely instant.
1
@chefcarry2902 this isn't an unproven theory, it is something that is unknowable and MUST be unknowable in order for relativity to work. For instance, if I am near a black hole where time passes 10 times faster and I'm 10 light years away, then any two way message will take exactly 20 years. But a one way message will take 10 of... Whose years? If it takes 10 of mine then it takes 100 of yours, and light cannot move at 1/10th the speed of light. If it took 10 of your years, then it only took 1 of mine and same problem. You can't ask the light how long it takes because according to light and journeys are instant. There are theories that fit this void that are impossible to test. Like we could assume just as light is bent by gravity as it travels in what it thinks is a straight line, it is accelerated by gravity to what it thinks is the speed of light. Meaning your message moved faster as it moved into the gravity well, and my message moved slower as it left, adding to a total of 20 years. Bizarre, eh?
