  6. @teaveins1466  I don't know anything about UK colleges, but here in the US there is in-state tuition where many colleges get state money that takes off roughly a third of tuition for residents of that state. Also poor students get grants from the Feds, and the very Federal student loans Mr. Biden wants to forgive are subsidized. Add many private research grants and scholarships all sorts of entities provide. The US has an opposite problem: There are more college grads than there is demand for most majors. Ergo a lot of people have the debt associated with a degree, but not the increased wages you'd expect with a degree.
