The reason Atlantis comes up so much is because most people only know it from fiction so they assume it's a myth but there really was a history passage that Plato wrote that he doubted many of the details saying there was this people in the Atlantic who abandoned their islands because of soil liquifaction. Presenting Atlantis as fact, however, is just called lying. Either you heard about it through fiction, or you actually read Plato who doubted Atlantis existed too.
