  7. The alcohol ban is just for show and is only enforced in select areas (namely airport security). The royals will probably specially bring in a shipment of beer for the event. Women should not leave the tourist area and should not travel alone.

  9. Mostly, yeah. Medina just means City in Old Arabic because for many centuries it was the only settlement large enough to have a full-time king governing the place. Riyadh is just several oasis with some farms and some nomads that were encircled by a fence in the 17th century and became a real city when oil was discovered. Most of the rest of the population lives on the coastline in unincorporated and/or nomadic fishing/farming communities.
