Correction about Iran's planes: We don't know how many, but very few are operational with most of the rest either cannibalized for parts or just sit in a hanger as they lack qualified pilots and mechanics. A few parts could be custom machined which is simply so expensive and time consuming that the planes simply aren't worth having. The Shah only bought them for show to begin with.
