  1. Not exactly. There's a list of devices that can be made with railgun tech, but an actual rail cannon isn't useful. The USS Ford, for example, uses magnets to catch and catapult airplanes for a fraction the cost of installation and repart as previous steam systems

  3. If you open up your keyboard you'll see all the buttons are capacitors. The current collects in that area because it wants to jump the bridge but can't, so when you push the button there's a heavy jolt to the current that makes the button truly instantaneous. If you scale this up to a ludicrous size, you have a battery that can discharge all at once.
