Iraqi incompetence is a major factor in every war in that region.

@Alex-cw3rz the point is the whole country isn't worth much and nothing has ever been better or worse. Even the schools are essentially fake guru scams, the few native doctors can only do rudimentary surgeries, native technical vocations don't exist, and science degrees are all simple applied sciences and no theory or R&D based studies at all. Rank in the military usually reflects ones relationship to some oligarch regardless what side you're on, training exercises are simply shows of force with who wins the rehearsed moves reflecting internal pecking orders, and worse of all the soldiers overwhelmingly prefer to man static roadblocks so they can collect bribes via arbitrary fines and guard a town without actually doing much. The list of abuses and decrepitude goes on......

@Alex-cw3rz not really. Virtually all technical training and tactics possessed by Iraqis came from either NATO or the Soviets. Even Iraqi railroads and mines require foreign engineers. In the routine defections of that country this is how a lot of our enemies got expertise, but the fact is systemic incompetence/cowardice/corruption/infighting plagued the Ba'ath, the Iraq Republic, the Kurds, the Iranians, and DAESH. One American NCO I net said said he trained Iraqi NCOs that didn't even know how to hold a weapon right.

@koekiejam18 no, I don't trust you. As he is your friend and you want to think the best of him while he wouldn't be kneen on telling you of any crimes or lack of education he may have. But yes, much of the little Iraq has is lost to infighting.

@koekiejam18 and how does any of that mean he was different from anyone else whilst living in that turdhole? The weed comment doesn't surprise me as functioning addiction to hash, khat, tobacco, and alcohol are all extremely common in that part of the world. And there's actually nothing new about the type of fighting Iraq faces. Before DAESH was al-Qaeda, before that was the Ba'ath, before that was the Iraqi Revolution, before that was colonial Britain's fight against tribal forces, before that is when detailed records stop but the place was under Ottoman occupation with tribal forces owning the streets and arbitrary executions and legal discrimination were the norm. Religious Jihad has also never totally stopped, with men and sects being arbitrarily labeled apostates (sex slavery was also legal back then). And again, at no point was there even any legit higher education system in the country and not even a single railroad was built without foreign help. Likewise, old systems of oligarchic privilege were simply replaced with systemic nepotism, and much of rural Iraq has seen little to nothing of modern living as open lagoons, illiteracy, self built houses, clan loyalties, sustenance farming, and thar are the norm as they've been since the bronze age.
