Embarrassing? Dude, fact of military hardware; the old stuff is never thrown away, it just gets sold to turdworld allies who upgrade it (which isn't feasible for juggernaught hardware like this). This isn't like your disposable smartphone's planned obsolescence, it's actually far cheaper to upgrade each individual airframe than to build new ones.

Tanks last that long too, but the old ones tend to get sold to turdworld allies. Just a couple years ago the Jordanian Army hired US engineers to outfit its Patton tanks with modern electronics.

Planned obsolescence is a sign that science is creating new stuff as fast as production lines can be set up, and exists in brief and eventful bursts. The silly part is when people try to apply the same level of disposability consumer electronics have on precision equipment... No, it's far cheap to retrofit old systems rather than buy new ones.
