  1. A big trend in history was before rockets/torpedoes were invented the biggest ships could carry the biggest guns and take the most hits. Ergo warships were as big as engineering would allow. These days the biggest warships are never meant to see the enemy and smaller, faster, and sneakier ships carry heavy weapons.
