Except how big is Hollywood really? The running joke where I'm from are that most actors are really career baristas.

I can speak for the plains, and homelessness largely doesn't exist here because housing is cheap. We have "couch surfing" where people stay at friends house, or live in abandoned buildings, or rip off landlords by making a deposit and then refusing to leave (forcible evictions take months or longer). Many assholes simply don't have to worry about that since they inherited houses that they live in and allow to rot. The state changed the definition of homeless so that they could falsely say we have a homelessness problem.

@FullLengthInterstates Alaska has the solution: A savings program. They just stuff the extra in the Permanent Fund and the profits of that fund are distributed as a tax return

To show how old the "moving out of California" problem is, Breaking Bad was set out in the American desert because the cost of living and taxes were lower there.

@randomnobody8770 It's like Patrick said, the major cities behave like archipelagoes. The cost of living may be low in California farmland, but in the chokepoints of Hollywood and Silicon Valley costs are so high that even six figures might not be enough. Cops in Malibu, where America's rich live, have a starting wage above 90 grand a year but the average monthly rent is over 2 grand.

No, he definitely isn't

@Dave-cf4xq this is where fraud is essentially. Just say what they want to hear and do what you want

The Pacific coast is the only part of the US/Canada that actually feels like a foreign country because it's separated from everything else by mountains and deserts. It's more like a Pacific Island nation like Australia than anything else, a lot of things are very expensive because they have to be imported.

I question your intelligence

@franciscosariles 19 million in film is misleading as the work is so irregular. I'll wager they spent an average of 2 months out of the year actually working and 10 month doing anything else

@I_Am_Your_Problem you ain't helping, Cali
2
@carrotblog1746 that's a situation you should either rent a house or leave
2
@aaronhpa that is one way to resolve the issue, yes.

@j3i2i2yl7 he means an actual savings account. Like Alaska's Permanent Fund

Shut up

@beatenbytheclown The guy from How Money Works said he was making six figures at an investment bank in San Francisco but the part of town he was in was so expensive that he had to share an apartment with two other men
1
@addanametocontinue revenue is irrelevant, meeting the criteria to any industry politicized since California became a state is the issue

It is a center, I don't know if it's no longer THE center.
