  2. No one cares about their currency dominating the market except egomaniacs and incompetents. But the reason there are a number of global cuurencies is if two small nations want to trade it is easier to use the currency of a big mutual trading partner. Less exchange issues as everyone can use it. Also, a small nation who trades a lot with a big nation will end up with a lot of its cash in its borders there's not much incentive to exchange for the local currency. The reason some politicians have a problem with it is it makes it blindingly obvious which economy is dependent on whose.

  16. They can, but might not be able to later. The reason they had all those rubles is because Russia is a net exporter and ended up with a lot of foreign currencies.
