  6. That's silly. Whomever controls said currency simply replaces the "politicians" you're complaining about. And most central banks are already independent for this very reason. And the dollar and to a lesser extent the euro already fill this role, with many countries that experience currency collapses undergoing rapid dollarization.

  7. @commonsensetrading4103  but as Patrick said in the video, that takes power out of local hands to decide their own inflation and interest rates. Which is a big deal since different events effect different economies differently. Shared currencies mostly only work when the economies of two states are one and the same, but shared economies also favor the whole land being under one government. You see this reflected in the Euro, where the sovereign states get along well but every little policy issue threatens to break the Euro. Likewise, the US allows most of its proxies to have their own currency because people will use dollars anyway for international and large purchases.

  8.  @commonsensetrading4103  Did you see all the drama within the EU? Like how Greece cooked the books in order to appear to follow EU rules then defaulted? Or how Italy wants more inflation than other EU states because they export mostly? Stuff like this is why England left, because the arrangement profits small, poor, and/or remote countries at the expense of the lead states. The lead states are only into this stuff if they can gain power from the arrangement, like how France and Germany have surrounded themselves with proxy states.

  15. I'm not sure why but Argentina has one of the most volatile economies in the world. Some decades they're the richest country in South America, some decades they're the poorest.

  18. I'd have to disagree with that Canadian peg to the dollar. Canada currently holds the record for sovereign country most dependent on another, with a huge section of their GDP crossing the border into the US at some point. The reason is simple: Most Canadians live within 100 miles of the border and are indistinguishable from Americans, but don't tell them that.

  19. @JonMartinYXD  that assumes the economies aren't coupled. But... Canada is so dependent on the US that when the US announced import massive tarrif hikes, Canada announced a recession. And since most or all Canadian investors are buying US stocks, it literally doesn't matter what the Canadian central bank does. Also the value of Canadian dollars is allowed to float but it's still backed by US t-bills. The US and Canadian economies, language, ideologies, and legal system are the same.
