  5.  @lori7196  by that same logic we shouldn't subsidize solar panels. Keep in mind removing US federal subsidies alone will drive up the price by over 50%, whereas subsidies for oil and gas comes from unrelated blanket subsidies (like tax breaks on job producing infrastructure).

I.E. if you were to nationalize this very second, the government would simply hire all the current contractors to fill their current roles under a new boss. I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN.

And you don't need to instruct anyone to provide essentials, in a free market if it is possible to turn a profit providing some service, SOMEONE WILL DO IT. Heck, the Romans even let private corporations run just about everything, even the fire department and veteran benefits. And copying what I said doesn't mean I'll assume you know anything about business management. My own remarks come from my days in private security and as a jailer.

The price of gold has varied so much over the centuries with sometimes being so high that not even governments could mint coins with them, and at other times being relatively cheap due to some nations stripping the gold from other nations in wartime. But more importantly, if gold was rising in value, WHY THE FRICK WOULD WE USE IT AS CASH??? We want people to spend or invest their money, not hoard it. The real bottom line is a Roman soldier was paid an amount of gold roughly equal to a modern soldier's pay (although post industrialization the price of most common goods have become stupid cheap).
