States in the north of Mexico stand to make a ton of money from getting annexed not just due to the inflow of developed business, but because they'd get access to America's welfare programs.

The winner of these degenerative practices were, in fact, the consumers. But now that it's over, there are cheap labor forces closer to most developed countries and thus there's less import cost

  10. Caveat to Mexican crime: We only know about it because it's extensively covered locally. Many crime spikes in Mexico are actually small civil wars as shadow governments and elites have at it at each other. In places like China and India they actively suppress crime reporting and statistics.
