I know of one counterexample where it is better to buy stocks rather than ETFs: If you have tens of millions to invest, you can save money on fees buying all the stocks in an ETF yourself.

@BenFelixCSI I hadn't thought of that, but I was bringing up that example to point out most people don't fit into any exceptions that exist

@wisnoskij Let's take the most extreme examples of Berkshire-Hathaway, Microsoft, and JP Morgan where the investor has so much money the ETFs don't have the liquidity to take it all. I was just looking for an exception that proves the rule, because YOU reading this are not Warren Buffet.
