Except a lot of bankruptcies, especially repeat offenders, are just idiots blowing their money away on stupid stuff. I don't know any statistics on vice versus misfortune, but many are a combination of both.

That's misleading, since ~40% of people have a BA or better. Do you mean that college grads are half as likely to go bankrupt?

@EmilyGloeggler7984 I don't have any statistics, just obvious trends. People who go into bankruptcy often have emergency expenses but the only reason it was an emergency was because they blew all their money away as fast as they got it or faster. It's like how most people in the top 1% of incomes still live paycheck to paycheck. It's not a necessity, it's a lifestyle choice.

@WeebJail No, if only 1% filed for bankruptcy, you'd expect 0.4% (40% of 1%) to be college grads going bankrupt all other things being equal.

Then you have people who are constantly insolvent but don't understand why they have bad credit (looking at you, Lebanon).
