A dozen people can hand hundreds of billions of dollars in this manner. While an active fund will have whole teams of analysts and researchers and even mathematicians to find elaborate hedging schemes or obscure opportunities. Thus the fees with active funds are normally around 3 or 4 times that of a passive fund.
