That's how the battle scenes in Lord of the Rings were done, and the massed battles were one of the reasons Christopher Tolkien thought it impossible to turn his father's book into a movie
101
Even alien weaponry would have performed poorly when Iraqis were using them
52
I wouldn't call it murder porn, but rather modern grunt's fantasy version of WWII. There's a lot of basic factual errors
24
The correct name will never catch on simply because it's hard for Americans/Brits to pronounce
21
Big in paper terms. The Iraqi army fought each other more than anyone else, but you'd have to be in the know on local gangs to know who was fighting who
20
@munderpool [Proceeds to miss for 3 movies]
16
These days when they reorganize stuff and chaos happens the command just says "failure to adapt and overcome" and punishes entire brigades. The punishments often cause more deadlines to be missed.
15
It seems like Hollywood doesn't know what the fuck they are doing
10
Armies need to learn they need to stop making a new office for every problem and stop making every office directly subordinated to the executive......

@30augt6spring it's called plot armor
8
Yes, and GPS and land nav training that allowed US armor to perform complex maneuvers in the desert impossible to the Iraqis
7
Fury is terrible in basically all regards
7
Mostly civilian organizations working for the army.
6
It's a glamorized campaign widely researched by tacticians
5
The Brits had a ton more German allies than we did on account the Kings of England was also the Electors of Hanover at the time.
5
As things got bad air crews essentially defended their own airfields and later were simply pressed into infantry service when they had no planes to service. The pilots were thrown into the front whether times were good or bad to maximize the utility of the planes
4
@chadblake7142 The myth is that there's a war in Ukraine. The fighting lasted less than a month and now both sides are just firing at nothing for the glamor shots
3
What a lot of people don't understand is President Funny Mustache actually didn't want to mass produce Tigers because as much as he liked big tanks he knew there was a need for LOTS of tanks, and lighter tanks can go faster and farther anyway.
3
In the handful of tank vs tank engagements that occurred
3
Much fewer than you think, as executing POWs are deliberately exaggerated in the press and popular histories regardless where it occurs.
3
@MrZauberelefant semi-regularly. It depended on the commander and whether they had room for prisoners. More POWs starved waiting on a truck to a labor camp than were killed outright, and that's something the Germans couldn't help
3
@mensch1066 lose the hyperbole. They were on the other team, end of story

Get back in class, kid
2
Overrated if you're a fighter pilot too
2
I only overheard parts of while doing something else
2
@dereinepeterpan5637 The whole thing. There's hundreds of "decisive contributions" to most wars
2
@dereinepeterpan5637 You're a teenager aren't you?
2
It's easy to see why tankers woukd see their big gun as a "shoot me" billboard, but that assumes the enemy firing at silhouettes in the dark cares about anything beyond friend ir foe.
2
What's with top commanders and hardened, shallow, precisely defined line of defense? This ain't a football game, any given line will only last a little while due to "wastage" and enemies bypassing defenses and friendlies reinforcing defenses as they're being contested.
1
@executivedirector7467 except a line built before the war will almost certainly be bypassed during the war
1
@whocares435-z9v I was speaking of armed forces more generally. In Kosovo the Serbs were setting up roadblocks and watch towers in strange places based on where they thought was cleared of enemies as if militias and raiders worked that way.
1
When did report come out and how far down the chain of command was it read?
1
Ahead of the time is an oxymoron
1
I don't like it when people try to quantify training because that is one section where the theory and practice have nothing to do with each other. There may be X in the manual but not Y, but the trainers might stress Y and ignore X. Many professionals in many industries will state flatly they have no idea if they're following the rulebook, because no one even opens them.
1
@konradvonschnitzeldorf6506 vhut?
1
@deplorabledegenerate2630 not necessarily all of them. A lot of them do it without realizing it because large bureaucracies are often so complications no one person knows how it all works
1
@MAAAAAAAAAA123 That doesn't have much to do with what I mention because all of these offices have overlapping duties and are all servicing the same armies
1
@MAAAAAAAAAA123 watch the video. This is about staff brigades
1
@MAAAAAAAAAA123 how can you talk so much but say so little? I repeat, this is a staff brigade, not operations
1
@MAAAAAAAAAA123 ........you know that's what different armies call the same thing, kid?
1
@ Get back in class
1
@MAAAAAAAAAA123 Get drafted. You're too young to know that girls beat men to turn them on, let alone old enough to condescend on silly matters

Former tanker here: We entertain delusions the only thing that kills tanks are other tanks. In his case they could have been easily picked off by fighters with 500lb bombs
1
@nian60 except native English speakers are the ones that count
1
The absurd part is why use tanks against that position at all when the Allies have air superiority
1
I don't think you should bother comparing tanks because with tank fights usually the person who shoots first wins, and usually the one that sees the other first will shoot first, but even that matters little when artillery, aircraft, mines, and breakdowns all take more tanks out of action than other tanks do.
1
All weapons look bad when Arabs are using them
1
@didymussumydid9726 The Soviets and Allies are considered separate and the casualty figures given after the war weren't altered.
1
Except they could avoid them because you found them. Your counterparts in Iraqi intelligence were useless because most of their spying was on other Iraqis and they lacked equipment and expertise.
1
German not Axis
1
@dereinepeterpan5637 No one said he was useless, I say you comically exaggerate
1
@alexandercorbett3095 IDK what that means, but I don't think Donut Operator and Curious Droid count, so lose the fraud. It makes you look like you're in junior high
